Here you will find the relevant information regarding the license model we use in our project and suggestions for how to cite the project and its datasets.

License for using photos & data from Lingscape

All photos and data in Lingscape are licensed under CC BY-SA 4.0.

Explanation: This license requires that reusers give credit to the creator (“Lingscape”). It allows reusers to distribute, remix, adapt, and build upon the material in any medium or format, even for commercial purposes. If others remix, adapt, or build upon the material, they must license the modified material under identical terms.

The full terms for using the Lingscape app can be found here.

How to cite the project

To cite the project in general, you can use the following pattern:

Purschke, Christoph / Gilles, Peter (2016 ff.): Lingscape – Citizen science meets linguistic landscaping. Esch-sur-Alzette: University of Luxembourg. https://lingscape.uni.lu.

How to cite your own dataset

If you want to cite your own dataset in the context of the platform, you can use the following pattern:

<Your name> (<year of first publication>): <Your project name>. In: Purschke, Christoph / Gilles, Peter (2016 ff.): Lingscape – Citizen science meets linguistic landscaping. Esch-sur-Alzette: University of Luxembourg. Published online at: https://lingscape-app.uni.lu

How to cite a specific photo

If you want to reference a specific photo from Lingscape, e.g., for caption texts in publications, the best way is to use the unique “photo ID”. You can find the respective ID for a photo in the public image repository (column ID) and in the photo details on the public web map. Should the image belong to a specific project, you can also add the project name and person responsible after the image ID. We suggest to use the following pattern:

Lingscape, ID XXXXX, [project, (project manager)], https://lingscape-app.uni.lu
